The Point

by Jess Greene on 17 May 2012

As I slowly and metaphorically drown in emails and wrack my brain for new ideas I do sometimes wonder, what is the point? Seek Your Course has a business plan and financial projections, but the break-even point is quite far down the road and the path fuzzy…it is a startup after all.

So why do I do what I do?

Newness.

I love new ideas and new developments. When I can legitimately spend time on a new idea life is good. Energy thunders about me. Smiles come more quickly. The inner drive sparks to life. Running a company dedicated to spreading creative engagement through innovative tools and services is the frosting on my cake.

Hope.

The purpose of Seek Your Course is to make creative engagement more accessible to adults. I don’t facilitate the classes, just help you find them. At the first Jumpstart Creativity Tour event I got to see creativity coming to life in people who had long since put it away. Each time someone finds a way to be creative I know that hope has found another foothold, possibility is still alive.

Connection.

Along with newness, community makes me happy. When I launched Seek Your Course I got the best emails from people who were excited about the site. Now that I am organizing the tour those people have stepped up to help me host and organize it. We all love what we do and help each fulfill dreams and do the impossible. It is a good place to be.

The Point.

“It was great to get together with people I had never met, but who I felt I could get to know in a matter of minutes because of our love of being creative.  I was so attentive to all the conversations around me and was fascinated by all the creativity out there, whether people were writers, singers or illustrators.  I was also great to be surrounded by lots of materials! It was a great way to try something new!”

That is what Elizabeth Steele wrote to me after the first Jumpstart Creativity Tour event this past weekend. And that, I said to myself, is The Point.

Newness, Hope and Connection wrapped up into a few sentences.

That is why I am driving around the country. That is why my neck hurts from too much time on the computer. That is why my inbox is like Grand Central Station. And that is why it is worth it.

Video: Honoring Your Creative Self

by Jess Greene on 15 May 2012

What prompted you to honor your creative self?

That is the question I asked several lovely ladies at Artfest back in March. Their answers are short and inspiring.

A special thank you to Stephanie Lee, Lulu Moonwood, Jeanie Pride, Susan Wade, Tory Brokenshire, and Keli McKinley Hansen for their answers! Feel free to leave a comment with yours.

Do YOU honor your creative self?
You should. Giving yourself the time to be creative will lead to a happier and healthier you!

We hope that through the upcoming Jumpstart Creativity Tour more and more people will get to experience what is feels like to be engaged creatively. Our first event on Sunday was great. More on that soon.
